Appy Hour with Cayla Weisberg

Last Thursday night, Five to Nine took some notes at Appy Hour with headliner Cayla Weisberg. We talked and laughed over wine and listened to Cayla tell us just how we can become just as much of a boss as she is.

We took the party over to Grind, a coworking space at 2 North Lasalle. The vibe was set by our friends at Alchomy, an app that helps you find the best drinks at bars near you. We also listened to three lightning pitches from other startups.

We listened to Bryan tell us about Dashporter, an app that keeps track of your car’s maintenance and gives you access to different repair options.

Tatyana showed us GiftOn, a website where people can share stories of the best gifts that they’ve given or received.

And our friend Aston taught us how to play TipOff, a game modeled off of Taboo to capture the Black Experience.

After that, we got to talk to Cayla Weisberg of InvestHER Ventures. The conversation was moderated by our friend Karis Hustadt, writer for ChicagoInno. Cayla told us about how she got her start as a business owner in High School. She made her way through college and managed to set herself apart from her competitors with her strength in experience, not just studies. She does not have a masters, but her expertise lies in knowledge of the industry.

Cayla also gave us advice on how to grow our own investment portfolios as well as how to set ourselves apart in the Startup community in order to attract investors.

After that, we wrapped up the evening with some more drinks and mingling and raffled off a ticket for free admission to our next event. Our next event is a workshop called “Find the Work You Love,” which will show you how to truly pursue your passion.

A big thanks to all of members from Five to Nine for making it out, as well as our friends at Alchomy for helping us organize and The Grind for letting us use their space. We hope to see you all at our next workshop! Get your tickets here.
